Namtso is one of Tibet’s most dreamlike blue lakes, but it is also a very high-altitude destination. The biggest mistake is going too fast before acclimatizing in Lhasa.
Late spring to early autumn is the easiest season. The road is simpler, the colors are vivid, and the lake’s blue is most photogenic.
Namtso works best for travelers who want one dramatic high-altitude landscape rather than a dense city sightseeing route.
